We were studying the word “bless” and its derivatives in my study group this week. I think everyone walked out with a different idea of what they believed blessings really are. We talked about the rich man and Lazarus and how easy it is to look at the story and see that Lazarus was really the blessed one of the two. We talked about how often people take the prayer of Jabez and use it to ask for material “blessings” from God. We looked at the beatitudes and saw how blessings are spiritual things.
It was unanimous that our favorite definition was from Wikipedia: the infusion of something with holiness. We committed to each other that we wanted that type of blessing…the type that not only fills us…but overflows for others to see…to the point that they want it too. Join us in praying for God’s blessings in our lives.
